Playa del Castillo

Playa del Castillo is a beach on the eastern coast of Las Palmas featuring dark volcanic sand and Atlantic Ocean views. It stretches approximately 250 meters and sits nestled between rocky outcrops that form a natural cove.

The beach takes its name from a 15th-century fortress that defended Las Palmas against pirate raids. This fortification was critical to the city's security during the colonial era.

Local fishing families have shaped daily life here for generations, with their morning work visible to visitors and their catches served in nearby restaurants.

The beach provides showers, restrooms, sunbed rentals, and lifeguard supervision for visitor comfort. Parking is available on-site, though spaces may fill quickly during busy periods.

The water maintains a consistent temperature of around 20-22°C year-round. A cool ocean current flowing around the Canary Islands creates this phenomenon, making swimming comfortable even in winter months.
