Playa de Barayo

Playa de Barayo is a protected beach on Asturias' northern coast that stretches roughly 670 meters. The area combines sandy shores, dune systems, and wetland zones enclosed by steep cliff faces.

This coastal area once housed a settled community that shared the beach's name. The old settlement eventually disappeared, though the coastline retained its importance for the region.

Locals value this spot as a key nature sanctuary that protects species found nowhere else nearby. The designation shows how the community prioritizes conservation of its coastline.

The site can be reached via marked walking trails from two different entry points, each with parking available. Visitors should prepare for changing weather and uneven terrain, especially when exploring the nature paths.

The Barayo river winds through multiple loops before reaching the bay, creating a wide estuary. Otters regularly appear in this wetland area, offering visitors unusual wildlife viewing opportunities.
