Playa del Inglés, Beach in Maspalomas, Gran Canaria, Spain
El Inglés is a wide golden sand beach in Maspalomas, on the south coast of Gran Canaria, Spain. It stretches for about 1.7 miles (2.7 km) and has an average width of 50 m, with calm waters and a backdrop of dunes and low buildings.
The area remained mostly agricultural until the 1960s, when tourism development transformed it into a resort. Since then, it has grown into a popular destination, with many hotels and services built along the coast.
The name of the beach, which means Englishman's Beach, comes from a foreign resident who settled here long ago. Today, the area is known for its open and diverse community, with many businesses and events that welcome all visitors.
The beach is easy to reach on foot or by car, with bus lines stopping nearby. It is accessible for people with reduced mobility thanks to ramps and a designated area, and you will find toilets, showers, and lifeguards on duty.
The beach has held the Blue Flag award since 1988, a recognition of its environmental quality and services. Also, the nearby Maspalomas Space Station was the first to receive signals from Apollo 11 astronauts after they reached the Moon.
