Otaniemi water tower, Water tower in Otaniemi, Espoo, Finland
The Otaniemi water tower features two stacked components: a water storage tank positioned above a five-story building containing technical facilities and offices.
Finnish architect Alvar Aalto designed this water tower in 1971, incorporating modernist principles during its construction period from 1968 to 1972.
The water tower stands at 45 meters tall, establishing itself as a central reference point within the Otaniemi university campus environment.
HSY Vesi manages this infrastructure with a capacity of 6000 cubic meters, distributing water throughout the Espoo region's pipeline network.
The tower's construction introduced hydraulic lifting of concrete elements, marking the first implementation of this engineering method in Finland.
