Espoo Cultural Centre, Cultural center in Tapiola, Finland
Espoo Cultural Centre is a performance venue in Tapiola housing two halls for concerts and theatrical productions. Tapiolasali seats 773 people while Louhisali accommodates 296 for a range of events.
The building resulted from an architecture competition won by Arto Sipinen in 1980, with construction beginning in 1986 and finishing in 1989. This project marked a significant cultural development for the Tapiola area.
The center serves as a hub for the Tapiola Sinfonietta orchestra and the Espoo Music Institute, hosting regular concerts and the April Jazz festival that draw local and visiting audiences.
The center sits at Kulttuuriaukio 2 and has a café serving lunch during weekdays with extended hours on event days. You can expect services to adapt around scheduled performances.
The building stands out with prominent external supporting columns and is clad in brushed white quartzite sandstone. These design choices give it a distinctive appearance reflecting late 1980s architectural thinking.
