Villa Eka, Art nouveau villa in Kilo, Finland
Villa Eka is an art nouveau building in the Kilo district of Espoo featuring a mansard roof with restrained decorative details set within natural surroundings. The structure displays clean architectural lines that blend seamlessly with the wooded landscape around it.
Architect Eliel Saarinen completed this building in 1903 following suggestions from artist Albert Edelfelt, who commissioned it as a residence for his wife. The City of Espoo purchased the house in 1981 and renovated it during the 1980s to create artist studios.
Painter Magnus Enckell lived here and created the 1921 work 'Artist's Villa in Kilo' documenting his time at this residence. The house became a gathering place for artists and creative individuals drawn to its natural setting.
