OzIris, Steel roller coaster in Parc Astérix, France.
OzIris is an inverted steel roller coaster at Parc Astérix in Plailly, where riders hang beneath the track and pass through several inversions. The course reaches a speed of 90 kilometers per hour (56 miles per hour) and includes tight turns and steep descents.
The ride opened in 2012 and was the first inverted model of its kind in the park. Bolliger & Mabillard from Switzerland designed and built the installation within one year.
The name merges Osiris and Apis from Egyptian mythology into a symbol of power and immortality. Visitors notice the decoration with hieroglyphs and statues along the queue, reflecting the theme of ancient temples.
Riders must be at least 130 centimeters (4 feet 3 inches) tall to board. The track measures roughly one kilometer in length and climbs to about 40 meters (131 feet) above ground.
The cars travel backward through a section of the track before accelerating forward again. This change of direction creates a surprising sensation that many riders do not expect on their first run.
