The Couvent et Basilique Saint-Bernard includes a convent, basilica, and church situated within a public park on the Butte de Fontaine hill overlooking Dijon.
The initial structure dates from the 11th century when Tescelin le Roux constructed a fortified house, which later underwent modifications during the 12th, 17th, and 19th centuries.
The basilica marks the birthplace of Saint Bernard of Clairvaux from 1090, who became a central figure in the reformation of the Cistercian religious order.
The complex received historical monument status on March 21, 1988, and visitors can access documentation about its heritage protection at the Médiathèque in Charenton-le-Pont.
The entrance portal originates from the former Couvent des Feuillants, which was dismantled during the French Revolution and integrated into the current structure.
