Plage du Lac Chanoine Kir, Sand beach at Lac Chanoine Kir, Dijon, France
Plage du Lac Chanoine Kir is an artificial lake of about 37 hectares with a sand beach along its northern shore. The beach offers volleyball courts, ping-pong tables, mini-golf, tennis courts, and special play areas designed for children with disabilities.
The lake was created in the early 1960s to control the Ouche River and reduce flooding risks in the area. It officially opened in 1964 and gradually became a major recreational destination for the city.
The beach comes alive during summer with the D'Jazz festival, which offers free jazz performances every Friday in August. Locals gather here on warm evenings to enjoy music and socialize by the water.
The beach is easy to reach and well-marked, offering plenty of space for relaxation and different activities. Summer from May to September is the ideal visiting period when weather is warm and all facilities are fully operational.
The lake has a walking path of about 3.6 kilometers circling the perimeter and lined with birch, poplar, and weeping willow trees. This route is ideal for spotting local birds and wildlife, especially during spring and fall migration seasons.
