Église Saint-Jean-Bosco de Dijon, Modern church in Maladière quarter, Dijon, France
Église Saint-Jean-Bosco is a modern church building with a single wide nave and a gallery designed to accommodate about 400 people. The interior follows a contemporary design that appears simple and functional.
The original building was constructed in 1951 as a wooden chapel in the Varennes area, with help from local residents and seminary students. These beginnings show how the community grew organically more than 70 years ago.
The church takes its name from John Bosco, an Italian priest from the 19th century who worked to help children and orphans. His name reflects the community values that this place represents in the neighborhood.
The building is relatively easy to enter, with space for different visitor groups thanks to its gallery level. It helps to check in advance when services or events take place so you can plan your visit accordingly.
The bell tower contains no actual bells but instead broadcasts sound through four speakers to the plaza. Since 2012 it also houses mobile phone equipment, showing how modern technology finds its place within traditional spaces.
