Modulauto is a car-sharing service in Montpellier with a fleet of around 100 vehicles spread across more than 50 stations throughout the Languedoc-Roussillon region. Members can access different vehicle types based on their needs and use them whenever they need a ride.
Modulauto began in 2006 and introduced a new way to access vehicles without owning them in Montpellier. The service grew from the need to rethink how people moved around the city.
The organization promotes shared mobility in urban environments, supporting a shift from individual car ownership to community-based transportation solutions in French cities.
Visitors can book vehicles through the website or app and unlock them with a personal badge, then return them at any available station. Since vehicles are located at different spots around the city, you can pick up and drop off at the most convenient places.
Each vehicle in the fleet replaces about nine private cars and frees up eight parking spaces in the city. This efficiency shows how much space and resources a well-run car-sharing system can save.
