Madone tower, Medieval tower in Villeneuve-Loubet, France.
The Madone Tower is a pentagonal keep rising about 14 meters high with varied masonry patterns visible across its exterior. The structure dates to medieval times and remains clearly visible in the Villeneuve-Loubet landscape.
The tower was constructed in the 13th century as the keep of La Garde fortress. In 1391, it underwent partial demolition following Queen Marie's orders, an event that shaped its current form.
A statue of the Virgin Mary crowns the tower's peak, placed there in the 19th century and reflecting local religious devotion. The structure itself has become a point of reference for people in the surrounding area.
Reaching the tower involves following a forest path from the Camping du Sourire starting point. The route passes through several unmarked woodland trails, so sturdy footwear and careful attention are advisable.
The keep features an unusual architectural detail: a projection measuring about 2.1 meters extends from the base and reaches directly over empty space. This engineering solution served a defensive purpose in the original medieval structure.
