Oceania, Cast iron sculpture at Musée d'Orsay, France

The Oceania statue stands 2.12 meters tall and 1.48 meters wide, representing the continent through a female figure at the museum entrance.

Created by Mathurin Moreau in 1878 for the Paris Universal Exhibition, this statue was initially displayed at the Palais du Trocadéro with five other continental figures.

The statue belongs to a series of six continental representations that demonstrate the French artistic perspective on global geography during the 19th century.

The sculpture remains in its permanent location on the esplanade of the Musée d'Orsay, alongside other historical statues from the same period.

After spending nearly 50 years stored in Nantes between 1935 and 1985, the statue returned to Paris through an exchange involving a Sisley painting.
