Seitan Limania, Sand beach in Akrotiri Peninsula, Greece
Seitan Limania is a small sand and pebble beach nestled in a narrow gorge with towering limestone cliffs on all sides. The waters are sheltered and deep blue, creating natural conditions ideal for swimming and exploring below the surface.
The name dates back to Ottoman times, combining the Turkish word for devil with the Greek word for harbor. This naming reflects the treacherous sea currents that long shaped how people perceived and approached this location.
The beach draws both locals and travelers who come to swim and explore the underwater world. Wild mountain goats roam the cliffs above and sometimes descend toward visitors, adding an unexpected element to the experience.
Getting to the beach requires a steep 20-minute downhill walk from the parking area, so bring sturdy footwear and plenty of water. The return journey is equally demanding, so plan for both the physical effort and extra time on the way back.
The beach sits where a natural fjord-like formation meets the sea, providing unusual protection from waves and creating ideal snorkeling conditions. The deep waters and surrounding rock formations offer exceptional underwater visibility and marine life encounters.
