Anna Cave, Show cave in Miskolc-Lillafüred, Hungary.
Anna Cave is a show cave near Miskolc-Lillafüred that extends for 570 meters through limestone formations. Visitors can walk through 208 meters of passages located 272 meters above sea level, where stalactites and limestone curtain formations are visible throughout.
The cave was discovered in 1833 by miner András Stark while searching for water sources to supply the iron furnaces in Hámor. This accidental finding eventually led to its development as a destination for visitors.
The cave takes its name Anna, but also became known as Petőfi Cave after Hungarian poet Sándor Petőfi visited in 1847. This dual naming reflects how the site has been shaped by notable figures who experienced it firsthand.
The cave maintains steady temperatures year-round, making it comfortable to explore during any season. Guided tours through the passages are the best way to understand the formations fully and navigate safely through the darkness.
This cave is one of only six travertine caves in the world open to the public. It also contains preserved plant fossils within its rock layers, making it particularly interesting for those curious about natural history.
