Miskolc Zoo

Miskolc Zoo is an animal park in Csanyik Valley that spreads across natural woodland and houses diverse species in forest settings. The facility sits near Bükk National Park and provides visitors with walking paths and viewing platforms throughout the grounds.

A royal hunting ground was established here in the 14th century as one of the region's earliest animal collections. The modern facility opened in 1983 and builds on this long tradition of animal keeping and wildlife care.

The zoo features a statue park displaying sculptures of extinct animals and includes the first statue worldwide dedicated to naturalist Gerald Durrell. This collection shows how people honor lost species and important nature conservationists.

Visitors can walk on marked paths throughout the grounds and access several viewpoints including elevated platforms and a suspension bridge. The natural woodland setting means sturdy footwear is recommended, and paths can become slippery when wet.

The site mixes animals from the Bükk Mountains with exotic species, allowing visitors to observe both types side by side in forest landscapes. This combination helps people understand local ecosystems and distant habitats in one location.
