Castle of Diósgyőr

Castle of Diósgyőr sits on a rocky outcrop above the Szinva stream valley, surrounded by four towers and thick stone walls. Inside, a large courtyard opens to a massive hall that once hosted royal gatherings and state affairs.

The castle was transformed in 1364 when King Louis the Great added vast estates and strengthened its defenses. This made it one of medieval Hungary's most important royal strongholds.
