People's Park, Urban park in Budapest District X, Hungary
People's Park, known in Hungarian as Népliget, is a large urban park in the 10th district of Budapest, made up of open lawns, tree-lined paths, and outdoor recreation areas. It sits next to the Népliget bus terminal, one of the city's main long-distance coach stations.
The land hosted a Formula 1 motor racing circuit in 1936 and was later turned into a public park, opening in 1973 to mark Budapest's centennial anniversary of unification. That shift transformed the site from a place of motorsport into an everyday green space for the whole city.
People's Park draws families, joggers, and older walkers who use its wide paths and open lawns throughout the week. The planetarium inside the park is a popular stop for school groups and curious visitors who want to learn about the night sky.
The park is easy to reach by metro on line M3, which stops directly at Népliget station at the park's edge. Comfortable shoes are a good idea since the paths cover a lot of ground and there is plenty of space to walk through.
The Strázsa Canine Center, located inside the park, works at the same time as a dog school, a shelter, and a breeding facility, and it regularly holds shows open to the public. It is one of the few setups of this kind found inside a city park in Hungary.
