Letterbreckaun, Mountain summit in County Galway, Ireland.

Letterbreckaun rises to 667 meters (2,188 feet) within the Maamturks mountain range and displays exposed quartzite formations along its steep slopes. The peak sits prominently within this chain, offering wide views across the surrounding terrain and valleys.

The mountain takes its name from Saint Brecan, a religious figure from early Christian times who succeeded Saint Enda from the Aran Islands. This naming reflects the spiritual significance these regions held during Ireland's early medieval period.

Local walking groups regularly include this peak in their Maamturks Challenge route, treating it as a significant waypoint in their traditional mountain circuit.

The climb from the southern parking area takes roughly two hours and follows marked paths with multiple elevation gains along the way. Sturdy footwear is important since weather conditions at this height can change quickly and the terrain becomes exposed in places.

The peak contains specific geological formations from the Bennabeola Quartzite period and ranks as Ireland's 167th highest summit. This geological character makes it of interest to those curious about the area's rock structure and composition.
