Central University of Jharkhand, university in Ranchi, India
Central University of Jharkhand is a public research institution in Ranchi founded in 2009, operating a temporary campus of 45 acres with classrooms, laboratories, and student residences. A new permanent campus of 510 acres is currently under construction about 10 kilometers outside the city, designed to integrate modern buildings with eco-friendly features.
The university was established in 2009 through a special parliamentary law, beginning operations under its first Vice Chancellor Darlando T. Khathing. It has grown rapidly into a major research institution with expanding facilities and the creation of a larger new campus.
The university maintains a dedicated focus on studying local Jharkhand culture through centers exploring tribal law, folklore, regional languages, and music. Visitors can observe how these cultural interests shape the academic work and activities throughout the campus.
The current campus sits approximately 25 kilometers south of Ranchi and is accessible by buses that run regularly between the city and the campus. Visitors should allow adequate travel time as journey duration depends on traffic conditions.
Some classroom buildings on the current campus were designed with trees growing through their roofs, creating an unusual connection between structures and nature. This design allows students to study while maintaining constant contact with the surrounding environment.
