Mainpuri constituency brings together five assembly areas in the northern part of Uttar Pradesh, representing more than 1.7 million registered voters. This electoral region connects several districts and forms one of the parliamentary units of the state.
The electoral area was established during India's first general elections in 1952 and has remained one of the 80 parliamentary districts of Uttar Pradesh since then. From 1996 onwards, the region has shown continuous support for the Samajwadi Party, whose candidates regularly receive the majority of votes.
The constituency exhibits a diverse demographic composition with Yadav communities forming 45% of voters, followed by Shakya, Brahmin, Scheduled Castes, and Muslim populations.
Voting days take place on dates set by the Election Commission, with results typically announced several weeks after polling. Voting happens at polling stations distributed across the different districts of the region.
In 2022, Dimple Yadav won the election with a margin of 280,000 votes, one of the highest majorities in the region's recent polls. This outcome reflected the continued support her party has received in this area over recent decades.
