Le Palais d'Ali Baba, Dark water ride at Walibi Belgium, Wavre
Le Palais d'Ali Baba was a dark water ride at Walibi Belgium in Wavre where visitors traveled in boats through eight different themed rooms filled with colorful characters and sets. The entire experience took place inside a large building that created an immersive journey through fantasy scenes inspired by Middle Eastern tales.
The ride opened in 1985 as one of the first major attractions at Walibi Belgium and helped establish the park's early reputation. It operated for 16 years before closing, eventually being reimagined as a seasonal Halloween experience before its final removal.
The attraction contained multiple chambers featuring theatrical scenes from Middle Eastern folklore, including the Sultan's Palace and the Eastern Market.
The boats loaded directly from a convenient platform, making access straightforward for most visitors. Keeping personal belongings secure was advisable since proximity to water could result in occasional splashes during the journey.
After closing, the building was transformed into a horror attraction called Palace of 1001 Nightmares for Halloween, offering a dark reinterpretation of the original concept. This seasonal variant demonstrated how the original space could be reimagined for completely different types of experiences.
