Vertigo, Suspended roller coaster at Walibi Belgium, Wavre, Belgium
Vertigo was a suspended roller coaster at Walibi Belgium in Wavre, where individual cars hung freely beneath an overhead rail. Riders sat in rows and were carried through twists and turns while the cars swung below the track.
The ride opened on June 14, 2007, at Walibi Belgium but faced persistent technical problems from the very beginning. It closed permanently in May 2008, less than a year after its opening.
Jean-Claude Van Damme, the Belgian action film star, took part in the reopening ceremony in May 2008. His presence drew considerable attention to the ride, even though it operated for only a very short time after that.
The train held several rows of riders and multiple trains could run on the track at the same time. Since the ride closed permanently, it is no longer accessible to visitors today.
Instead of a standard chain lift, the ride used a vertical elevator to hoist the cars to the top before releasing them onto the track. This was an uncommon way to launch a suspended coaster at the time.
