Le Secret de La Licorne, Transporter dark ride at Walibi Belgium, Wavre, Belgium
Le Secret de La Licorne was a dark ride with boats that carried passengers through various scenes while following the story of Tintin's search for treasures of the Unicorn ship. The vehicles held about twenty people at a time and moved freely through detailed sets based on the 1943 comic.
The ride operated between 1980 and 1995, after which it closed and was later transformed into Challenge of Tutankhamon in 2003. This Egyptian adventure eventually replaced the Tintin story at this location.
Studio Hergé created the designs for this ride, keeping the authentic visual look of the original Tintin comic books. Visitors could see the distinctive drawings and colors from the comics brought to life in every scene.
The ride system could transport up to twenty visitors per group, allowing multiple groups to experience the adventure at the same time. The boats moved slowly through all the scenes so that every passenger could see the details.
This ride used a free-roaming boat system where the boats moved independently through the scenes rather than following a fixed track. This technical design allowed multiple vehicles to pass through the same scene at the same time without blocking each other.
