Tevno ezero refuge, Mountain shelter in Pirin Mountains, Bulgaria
Tevno Ezero is a two-story mountain shelter located at 2512 meters elevation near Dark Lake in the Belemeto Cirque region. The building accommodates 55 guests with basic facilities including blankets, cooking equipment, and outdoor restrooms.
The shelter was founded to provide essential rest and accommodation for travelers crossing the Pirin Mountains. Over time it became an important base for hikers and climbers exploring this high mountain region.
The refuge serves as a meeting place where hikers and climbers gather for shared meals and overnight stays in simple dormitory-style rooms. This communal setup creates a direct, welcoming environment where visitors naturally interact over the course of their stay.
The shelter operates from May through November and welcomes visitors who plan to bring their own food supplies. It is wise to contact ahead since bed availability is limited and weather conditions at this elevation can change rapidly.
The shelter sits beside Bulgaria's highest lake and serves as a junction point for different hiking trails. From here, visitors can head out to four other mountain huts accessible through varied routes.
