Hamilton Public Library, public library system in Hamilton, Ontario
Hamilton Public Library is a public library network spread across multiple branches in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Each branch offers books, magazines, computers, and programs aimed at all age groups.
Hamilton's first public library opened in 1890 as the first building in Canada purpose-built as a library. The current central library opened in 1980, and the network grew in 2001 when nearby communities such as Dundas joined the city.
The library is a place where people from across the city come to read, attend programs, or simply spend time. Many branches host regular events for children, teenagers, and adults throughout the year.
All locations offer free internet access and computer use without requiring membership. Staff are available to help with finding materials or answering questions about borrowing.
Six of the branches house art galleries that display work by local artists. The network also holds a dedicated Local History and Archives collection with old photographs, city records, and documents tracing Hamilton's past.
