120 King Street West is an 11-story office building with a glass and concrete facade in downtown Hamilton. Large windows flood the interior office spaces with light and define the building's appearance throughout the day.

The building was constructed in 1983 as part of a larger development initiative in the downtown area. It marks an important phase in the modernization of Hamilton's business district during that decade.

The tower carries the name Standard Life Centre from the Standard Life Assurance Company of Canada, one of the firms behind the Jackson Square development. Its lobby opens directly into the Jackson Square mall and the three other office buildings of the complex, so pedestrians pass between them indoors.

Two elevator banks serve the lobby: the east bank reaches floors 1 to 6 and the west bank floors 7 to 11, and one car in each bank also stops at the underground garage and the plaza level. Escalators and stairs link the main level with the plaza. The shared underground lot holds 1,300 vehicles.

The lobby's two elevator banks are split by height: the east bank's four Schindler cars serve floors 1 to 6, the west bank's four serve floors 7 to 11, and in each bank one car also reaches the underground garage. All eight stop at the plaza level, which escalators and stairs link to the main lobby and mall.
