Richmond-Adelaide Centre, Commercial complex in Financial District, Toronto, Canada
The Richmond-Adelaide Centre is a commercial complex in downtown Toronto comprising multiple office towers linked by a retail concourse that spans approximately 1.6 million square feet. The development houses offices for thousands of workers and includes dining and shopping facilities within its interconnected spaces.
The development traces its origins to the Federal Building constructed in 1923 at 85 Richmond Street West, which launched the area's commercial growth. Subsequent phases of construction expanded the complex over decades into the multi-tower system seen today.
The sculpture Dreaming by Jaume Plensa occupies the central courtyard since 2020 and serves as a focal point for people moving through the complex. The work transforms the public space into a place where visitors naturally pause and gather.
The complex connects directly to Toronto's underground PATH walkway system, making it easy to access without going outside during harsh weather. A food court with around 400 seats and various shops are located inside, serving the needs of workers and visitors throughout the day.
The 1923 Federal Building remains standing at the eastern edge of the development, with its classical architecture contrasting sharply with the modern towers surrounding it. This surviving heritage structure often goes unnoticed by visitors focused on the newer sections.
