Heart Lake Conservation Area, Protected area in Brampton, Canada.
Heart Lake Conservation Area is a protected area in the Regional Municipality of Peel, Ontario, Canada, covering a lake, wetlands, and forested sections. Spring Creek originates from source springs found within the site, which lies within the Etobicoke Creek watershed.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority established this protected area to preserve the natural resources and ecological functions of the Etobicoke Creek watershed. The decision was part of broader regional efforts to keep natural land from being lost to development.
The Medicine Wheel Garden was laid out with guidance from an Anishnawbe Nation elder and follows a circular design divided into four directions, a pattern that carries meaning in many Indigenous traditions. Visitors can walk through it freely and observe the plants grown there, many of which have traditional uses.
The area has several interconnected hiking trails at different difficulty levels, so visitors can choose a short walk or a longer outing depending on their energy. Sturdy footwear is a good idea, especially after rain, when some sections can become muddy.
The lake is regularly stocked with rainbow trout from the Glen Haffy Conservation Area Fish Hatchery, making it one of the few spots in the region where fishing is possible so close to an urban setting. This draws anglers throughout the year, including in quieter seasons when the trails are mostly empty.
