Qausuittuq National Park, National park in Nunavut, Canada
The northern section of Bathurst Island contains 11,000 square kilometers of Arctic terrain with wetlands, plateaus, bluffs, and hills shaped by glaciation.
Archaeological evidence reveals human presence on Bathurst Island dating back 4,500 years, with British naval expeditions exploring the region during the 1850s.
The name Qausuittuq originates from Inuktitut language, referring to the winter period when the sun remains below the horizon in this Arctic location.
Access to the park requires transportation by chartered aircraft, boat, snowmobile, or dogsled from the nearby settlement of Resolute.
The park protects critical habitat for endangered Peary caribou, Arctic wolves, muskoxen, and marine species including narwhals and bowhead whales.
