Taloyoak

Taloyoak is a territorial hamlet on the southwestern coast of Boothia Peninsula in Nunavut. The settlement sits on the mainland at high northern latitudes and functions as a base for local residents with essential services and infrastructure.

The Hudson's Bay Company established a trading post in 1948 that led to the settlement forming. The village was originally called Spence Bay until it was renamed in 1992.

The residents are Netsilik Inuit who create stone and bone carvings that you can see in daily life. These handcrafted objects show regional techniques passed down through generations.

The hamlet is remote and relies on annual sealift operations and air connections for supplies. Visitors should prepare for limited services and plan ahead for travel schedules with long gaps between arrivals and departures.

The settlement sits on mainland North America and offers views of the Northwest Passage shipping route. From here visitors can watch vessels pass and see one of the Arctic's most important maritime routes in action.
