Piz Scerscen, Mountain peak in Bernina Range, Switzerland and Italy.
Piz Scerscen is a mountain in the Bernina Range on the border between Switzerland and Italy, standing at about 3,971 meters. The peak has two summits and features steep glaciated slopes combined with exposed rock formations.
The mountain was first climbed in 1877 when Paul Güssfeldt, Hans Grass, and Caspar Capat reached the summit via the northwest spur. This early ascent marked an important moment in the climbing history of the region.
The name comes from Romansh language and refers to the circular shape of the mountain. This linguistic connection reflects the local heritage of the Grisons region.
Climbers typically begin their ascent from the Marinelli Hut on the Italian side or the Tschierva Hut on the Swiss side. The choice of starting point depends on the intended route and current mountain conditions.
The Eisnase route presents a technical climbing challenge featuring a 100-meter ice pitch with an inclination between 60 and 70 degrees. This steep section ranks among the most demanding climbing passages on the mountain.
