Piz Bianco, Mountain summit in Grisons, Switzerland
Piz Bianco is a mountain summit rising to 3995 meters in the Bernina Range, distinguished by steep rock faces and a prominent diorite ridge. The peak stands prominently above the surrounding terrain and dominates views from many directions in the region.
The summit's name derives from its snow-covered northern slopes, which gave it the appearance that inspired its White Peak designation. This naming tradition reflects how early mountaineers observed and described the Alpine landscape around them.
Local mountaineering traditions incorporate Piz Bianco into multi-peak expeditions alongside neighboring summits, forming part of the Swiss Alpine heritage.
Climbers typically reach the summit via established routes from either Chamanna da Tschierva or Chamanna da Boval mountain huts. Both huts serve as base camps and provide lodging for those attempting the ascent across the Biancograt ridge.
The peak marks the highest point of the Biancograt ridge and rises approximately 20 meters above the southern col. This location makes it the natural endpoint of a well-known ridge traverse that many mountaineers explore in the region.
