Pic Chaussy, Mountain summit in Vaud Alps, Switzerland
Pic Chaussy is a 2,351-meter peak in the Vaud Alps located between Les Diablerets and Col des Mosses. The mountain features steep rocky slopes and is crossed by several established hiking routes that vary in difficulty.
A cable car system ran from Col des Mosses to the summit between 1962 and 1987, bringing easier access to the peak during those decades. After its closure, the mountain returned to being reached primarily on foot.
The mountain areas near Pic Chaussy maintain traditional Alpine festivals focused on local music and seasonal agricultural celebrations throughout the year.
Hikers should choose the route from Les Diablerets or Col des Mosses and check current weather conditions before setting out. Sturdy footwear and navigation skills are important since the exposed peak can attract sudden fog and weather changes.
Lake Lioson sits in a basin to the north and mirrors the mountain on clear days, offering a quiet spot that many hikers reach before attempting the final climb. This reflective body of water is a memorable sight during the approach.
