Claridenhütte, Mountain hut in Glarus, Switzerland
Claridenhütte is a mountain hut at 2457 meters in the Glarus Alps, housing around 70 guests across multiple sleeping areas. The building sits above tree line and serves as a base for alpine routes and glacier crossings in the surrounding peaks.
The hut was built in 1941 by a section of the Swiss Alpine Club and expanded with an extension in 1987. A major renovation in 2013 updated the facilities while keeping its original alpine character intact.
The hut reflects alpine building tradition with simple, functional design suited to mountain living. Visitors experience the culture of mountaineering here, where climbers and hikers share knowledge about routes and conditions around them.
The hut opens only during specific seasons and requires advance booking, especially during peak months. Visitors should know that only cash in Swiss francs or euros is accepted and amenities are basic for high-altitude living.
A winter room remains accessible even outside regular operating months, providing 12 sleeping spaces for self-sufficient mountaineers. This allows for multi-day alpine crossings through the glacier terrain without interruption.
