Tin Hau Temple, Temple dedicated to Mazu in Sok Kwu Wan, Lamma Island, Hong Kong.

Tin Hau Temple is a sanctuary dedicated to the goddess of the sea located at the waterfront of Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma Island, showcasing traditional Chinese architecture. The entrance displays carved decorations and wooden plaques crafted in classic style.

The temple originated in the mid-1800s when the community sought protection for their fishing livelihoods. It underwent major reconstruction work to ensure the building would endure for future generations.

People come to this temple to pray to Mazu, the goddess of the sea, for protection during fishing and sea voyages. The fishing community relies on her for blessing before they set out on the water.

The temple is within easy walking distance of the ferry pier and sits right in the small waterfront village. Visitors should wear appropriate clothing and remove their shoes when entering, as it is a sacred space.

The temple entrance features two unusual lion statues in western style, lying down instead of standing upright like traditional Chinese guardian lions. A local sculptor created these figures, making them a striking detail that surprises visitors familiar with typical temple guardians.
