Lo So Shing Beach, Bathing beach on Lamma Island, Hong Kong.
Lo So Shing Beach is a sandy bathing beach on the western side of Lamma Island, Hong Kong, framed by wooded hills. The beach is reachable via a marked trail from Sok Kwu Wan and has changing rooms, showers, toilets, and a small snack stand on site.
The beach was designated an official public bathing beach by the Hong Kong government in 1972, which led to the installation of the facilities and services still found there today. Before that, the cove was used informally by local fishermen and island residents.
Lo So Shing sits close to Yung Shue Wan, one of Lamma Island's main villages, known for its seafood restaurants and relaxed pace. Many visitors combine a trip to the beach with a walk through the village and a meal by the waterfront.
Lamma Island has no cars, so the beach is reached on foot or by ferry from Aberdeen or Central in Hong Kong. The walk from the ferry pier takes around 20 minutes, and the beach tends to be much less crowded on weekdays.
Lo So Shing is one of the few beaches in Hong Kong that can only be reached on foot, with no road leading to it. This has kept the surrounding area largely unchanged for decades, which is rare so close to a major city.
