People's Park, Urban park in Hexi District, Tianjin, China.
People's Park is an urban park in Tianjin covering about 14 hectares with traditional Chinese gardens as its main feature. The grounds include water surfaces, paved pathways, and landscaped areas arranged throughout the space.
The site was established in 1863 as a private garden owned by salt merchant Li Chuncheng. The state took over the property in 1951 and opened it to the public.
The name displayed here features calligraphy by Mao Zedong from 1954, marking his only such work for a public park in the country. This inscription shapes the entrance and connects visitors to a specific moment in national history.
The park sits between Xiamen Road and Guangdong Road with free admission for everyone. The paved pathways make it easy to explore the entire area at a leisurely pace.
The land here underwent a significant transformation from a former shooting range and garbage dump into a model of urban environmental restoration. This shift demonstrates how an industrial past can be converted into a thriving green space for the community.
