Tianjin World Financial Center, Skyscraper in Tianjin Financial District, China.
Tianjin World Financial Center is a skyscraper in the financial district of Tianjin, China, rising 337 m (about 1,106 ft) with a glass and steel facade. The tower is used mainly as office space and connects directly to the city's underground transit network.
The tower was completed in 2011 as part of a planned effort to turn Tianjin into a major financial hub in northern China. It was designed by the American firm Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, which had already shaped several skylines around the world.
The tower, designed by Skidmore Owings Merrill, represents the fusion of Chinese economic growth with international architectural expertise in the 21st century.
The building sits close to several metro stations, making it easy to reach without a car. Since it is an active office tower, public access is generally limited to the lobby and a few ground-floor areas.
The tower's profile tapers slightly as it rises, which sets it apart from the more uniform rectangular blocks nearby and gives it a subtly slender look from street level. This shape also helps reduce wind pressure in a coastal area where strong storms are common throughout the year.
