Zhang Garden, Former imperial residence in Heping District, Tianjin, China

Zhang Garden is a former imperial residence with a three-layered courtyard layout and Spanish-influenced brick-wood structures containing 21 rooms. Each space is furnished with royal furnishings that reflect the luxurious lifestyle of its former occupants.

The mansion was built in 1916 by Zhang Biao, a Qing Dynasty official. Later it became home to Puyi, the last Emperor of China, during a significant period of his life.

The residence reflects how European and Chinese architectural styles merged during Tianjin's foreign concession era in the early 1900s. Walking through the rooms, you can see how Western and Eastern design elements coexist in the same spaces.

The property is typically open on weekdays and weekends with a midday break between visiting hours. The grounds are relatively compact, so walking through all the rooms and courtyards usually takes about an hour or two.

The property includes four preserved bungalows that were specifically built to house the staff and attendants of the last Emperor. These separate structures reveal how the imperial entourage lived in designated quarters apart from the main residence.
