Yan'an Revolutionary Sites

The Yan'an Revolutionary Sites comprise a major complex spread across several distinct locations that together document an important period in China's history. The complex includes historic buildings, museum exhibitions, and an ancient pagoda distributed across multiple areas that visitors can explore.

The complex became a key center after party leaders arrived following a long march and operated from there between 1935 and 1948. During this period, important decisions were made that shaped China's development.

The site represents a period when the Chinese Communist Party shaped its vision and direction from these locations. Visitors can observe how people lived and worked here, and understand the role these places hold in the nation's modern story.

The various locations are situated throughout Yan'an and can be accessed using local transportation to move between them. It is helpful to allow several hours to visit the different areas and view the exhibitions.

One of the structures, the Baota Pagoda, was built during the Tang Dynasty and is many hundreds of years older than the complex itself. The tower was long a defining landmark of the city and offers views across the surrounding area from its upper levels.
