Stork Tower, Ancient tower in Puzhou Town, Yongji, China
Stork Tower is a structure in Puzhou that stands about 74 meters tall and comprises three levels designed in Tang Dynasty style with elaborate decorative details. Each floor houses exhibition spaces showing different aspects of regional history and literary heritage.
The original structure was built during the Northern Zhou Dynasty between 557 and 581 AD and served as a watchtower for over 700 years. Through later dynasties it underwent several reconstructions and acquired its current form through different building phases.
The tower carries its name from the storks that once inhabited this region and shaped local identity. Visitors today can sense how the structure remains woven into the area's sense of place and traditions.
The building is easily accessible and can be entered from several points, with stairs leading up through the different levels. Best visited during daylight with good light to fully appreciate the architectural details and views of the surrounding area.
The nearby lake forms the shape of stork wings, creating a symbolic connection to the tower's name. Additionally, the adjacent square produces an echo effect that mimics stork calls and offers an unexpected acoustic experience.
