Opernplatz

Opernplatz sits in front of the Old Opera House and is bordered by seven streets, including the luxury shopping destination Goethestraße and the restaurant-lined Große Bockenheimer Straße. The square features paved areas, seating zones, and tree-lined green spaces for pedestrians.

The square gained its current importance in 1978 when the Lord Mayor established the Opera Square Festival to support residents during the Alte Oper renovation work. The space has since developed into a regular venue for cultural events and public gatherings.

The square hosts the annual Opera Square Festival from June to July, featuring classical and contemporary music performances alongside international food offerings. During these months, the space transforms into a gathering point where locals and visitors experience art and cuisine together.

The square is easily accessible from the Hauptwache U-Bahn station to the Alte Oper station, with nearby underground parking available. Visitors should note that during events the space fills quickly and seating options may be limited.

From this vantage point, office buildings of modern bank towers become visible, creating a sharp contrast with the classical Opera House structure. This perspective shows how Frankfurt's architecture shifts between historical and contemporary styles.
