Knight Hans von Trotha constructed this fortification in 1484 as an outpost for Berwartstein Castle, enabling troops to defend the surrounding Leichenfeld area.
The structure, originally recorded as Thurm Frankreich in 1511, received its name due to its proximity to France, located just 7 kilometers away.
The restoration work initiated in 2005 has made the site accessible to visitors who can examine the remaining battery tower with its multiple weapon embrasures.
A collapsed underground tunnel once connected Little France to Berwartstein Castle, situated 370 meters north across a side valley.
