Haus Morp, Heritage manor house in Erkrath, Germany
Haus Morp is a manor house with multiple buildings set within a large landscape park that spreads along the Düssel River. The complex consists of the protected main house, the neoclassical Villa Grillo, and the former convent building Villa Hecker.
First documented in 1144 as Morafa, the site initially functioned as a monastic community along a water channel of the Düssel River. It later evolved into a knight's castle before being transformed into residences during the 19th century.
The name carries medieval roots that have endured to the present day, pointing to the estate's founding origins. Visitors can sense this historical continuity in how the grounds and its various structures have been shaped over time.
The park features multiple walking trails of varying lengths that pass through nature reserves and open areas. Access is via Düsseldorfer Straße 164, allowing visitors with different fitness levels to choose suitable routes.
Villa Hecker was originally designed as a convent and retains a sacred character in its architecture to this day. This blend of secular country residence and monastic tradition makes the estate a rare combination of two different worlds.
