Veronikahöhle

Veronikahöhle is a cave entrance in the Ice Age Park near Engen with chambers that reach several meters into the ground. The passage system extends approximately 20 meters beneath the surface.

Scientists discovered the original entrance to this cave in 2023, which dates back around 16,000 years. Investigations by the University of Heidelberg have shown that people from the late Stone Age used this location.

The cave belongs to a network of archaeological sites in the region that documents settlements from the late Stone Age. Together with other caves nearby, it tells the story of people who lived here thousands of years ago.

The cave entrance is currently sealed and under investigation by specialists. Visitors should check ahead to learn whether the site is open to the public, as excavation work is ongoing.

Researchers believe the cave may contain stone tools, jewelry, and artistic objects from the Stone Age. Such discoveries could reveal important details about how people lived and their creative abilities during that era.
