Burg Hahnenkamm

Burg Hahnenkamm are ruins of a fortress on a hillside near Bissingen an der Teck. The remains consist of wall sections and foundations, some of which have been partially rebuilt and are still visible today.

The fortress was built in the middle of the 13th century by the Dukes of Teck and served as an outpost to secure their territory. In the 14th century it came under the control of the Württembergers, marking a new era for the region.

The walls show traces of old craft techniques that you can still see today in the differently worked stones. Visitors can understand as they walk around how medieval builders stacked stone upon stone at this location.

The ruins are located on a hiking trail and are easy to reach with good signage. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the path is sometimes uneven and vegetation around the walls can be dense.

The name Hahnenkamm likely refers to the shape of the ridge, which resembles a rooster's comb. This geographic feature made the location ideal for defense from above.
