The building was constructed in 1872 based on John Moore's design and was Europe's tallest water tower at the time. It supplied Cologne with drinking water for decades before World War II caused significant structural damage.

The interiors blend French and Art Deco design elements that Andrée Putman incorporated throughout the spaces, bringing Parisian style into the industrial setting. Each floor reflects a different character while honoring the building's former purpose.

The location is central and makes it easy to reach Cologne's main attractions on foot. The building's circular shape means rooms have varying layouts on each floor, which is worth knowing when booking.

The main entrance opens into an unusually tall lobby that spans several floors and creates an impressive sense of space. The bar on the top floor was designed using the former machinery room of the water tower as its foundation.
