Blau-Gold-Haus, Architectural monument in Altstadt-Nord, Germany
The Blau-Gold-Haus is an architectural monument in Altstadt-Nord featuring steel frame construction with expansive windows across its facade. This building method allows daylight to penetrate throughout all levels while showcasing its functional interior layout.
Peter Behrens designed this building in 1910 to serve as an administrative center for the Mannesmann industrial works. Following World War II, it transitioned to housing state administrative functions and offices.
The building takes its name from the color scheme that defines its visual appearance and sets it apart from other structures of its era. Visitors notice these distinctive colors immediately when entering the neighborhood.
The building sits near tram stations and is easily walkable from the city center. Note that this is an active administrative building, so interior access may be limited to viewing the exterior.
The building served as a headquarters for military occupation forces during the post-war period and housed various administrative bodies. This shifting use reflects how the structure became a stage for different chapters of regional history.
