Dom-Hotel, Palace hotel near Cologne Cathedral, Germany
Dom-Hotel is a palace hotel in central Cologne, situated directly beside the city's cathedral on Cathedral Square. It offers rooms facing the cathedral, a restaurant, and terrace areas that open onto the square in front of the church.
The hotel opened in 1857, making it one of the oldest luxury hotels in Germany. It was renovated several times over the 20th century without ever leaving its spot beside the cathedral.
The Dom-Hotel has long served as an unofficial reception hall for the city, hosting heads of state, artists, and diplomats across generations. Walking through the lobby today still conveys that sense of formal welcome and civic pride.
The hotel sits on Cathedral Square in the heart of the old town, within a short walk of the main train station. Arriving on foot from the station is the most straightforward option, as the cathedral towers serve as a visible landmark.
During World War II, the hotel remained partly operational despite the heavy bombing that destroyed much of the surrounding city center. The cathedral and the hotel were among the very few structures in the area that survived largely intact.
